Counting points (Lounge Simple)

In Nah!jong, scores are counted in points. The rules here are called Lounge Simple, kept simple so new players pick them up quickly.

How it works

Every winning hand is checked against the list of rules below. Each rule that applies adds points, and everything is added up. The winner gets that total.

There is no minimum score to win, and no upper limit. Even the simplest hand is a valid win worth 1 point.

Points table

RulePoints
WinAlways scored when your hand wins.1
Self-drawnYou drew the winning tile yourself from the wall.+1
Concealed handNo set is exposed. A concealed kong still counts as concealed.+1
All chowsAll four sets are chows. The pair can be anything.+1
All pongsAll four sets are pongs or kongs.+3
Half flushAll suited tiles are from one suit, plus winds or dragons.+3
Full flushEvery tile is from one suit, with no winds or dragons.+6
Dragon pongEach pong or kong of dragons.+1 each
Seat wind pongA pong or kong of your seat wind.+1
Round wind pongA pong or kong of the round wind.+1
FlowersEach flower or season you collect.+1 each

A few notes:

  • Concealed hand means you have not laid any set open on the table. A Kong you form yourself still counts as concealed.
  • If you win on a discard, the set that tile completes still counts as concealed.
  • Full flush is never counted together with Half flush. Only the one that applies counts.

A worked example

This hand is fully concealed, and its last tile, 5 Bamboo, was drawn from the wall by the player. During play they also collected one flower.

The count:

  • Win: 1 point
  • Self-drawn: 1 point
  • Concealed hand: 1 point
  • All chows: 1 point
  • Flowers: 1 point

Total: 5 points.

Remember: the more rules your hand meets, the more points it scores. But winning quickly with a simple hand is a good strategy too.
